We recently enjoyed the chance to catch up with Julia of Julia Susanne Photography, a Colorado native with a love for artistry and travel. Julia is a Colorado-established wedding and elopement photographer capturing celebrations globally. Julia is also an extrovert with a warm, friendly, and enthusiastic personality; she loves to be around people, which translates perfectly into her love for photographing people, especially those in love.

Born in Vail and raised in Golden, Colorado, Julia has always been a creative person. She fell in love with film photography while at the University of Colorado Boulder, studying for her studio arts degree. Once Julia discovered her passion for photography, it became abundantly clear that her life goal was to be a photographer. Julia was born profoundly deaf and wears Cochlear implants to help her hear and communicate. She says “I hear with my eyes,” reflecting her talent and devotion to the use of photography as an art form. When it came to starting her own photography business, Julia knew that it was the best way to expand her world creatively and bring her photographs to life exactly as intended.

Weddings undoubtedly can have a lot going on, from the smallest to the biggest of weddings. Julia explains that she thrives in the midst of all those moving pieces during a wedding. She understands how to navigate those moments, even if they become chaotic or stressful.

“Getting to capture the events on the wedding day, that is one of the couple’s best days, is easily the best feeling ever. To be able to have that power to gift them that certain photo they can look back on and immediately be transported back to that moment, is really cool,” Julia reflects.

Julia adds that her favorite thing about photographing weddings “is capturing those quick moments and freezing them forever. Wedding days are quick and fly by so fast, and my superpower for the couple is to document those raw feelings and people’s emotions.”
